Νωρίς τη Δευτέρα αναφέρθηκαν μεγάλες εκρήξεις σε δύο μεγάλες ρωσικές αεροπορικές βάσεις που βρίσκονται εκατοντάδες χιλιόμετρα από τα ουκρανικά σύνορα.
Η Μόσχα, η οποία κατηγόρησε τα ουκρανικά μη επανδρωμένα αεροσκάφη και δήλωσε ότι κατέρριψε αρκετά μη επανδρωμένα ουκρανικά σκάφη, απάντησε με νέο καταιγισμό πυραύλων στην Ουκρανία αργότερα μέσα στην ημέρα.
Το Κίεβο, από την πλευρά του, ήταν σιωπηλό για οποιαδήποτε ευθύνη για την επίθεση μέχρι τη στιγμή που γράφονταν αυτές οι γραμμές – λέγοντας μόνο, παιχνιδιάρικα, ότι “η Γη είναι στρογγυλή”.
Εάν η ρωσική εκδοχή είναι αληθινή, θα πρόκειται για ένα θρασύτατο χτύπημα στην καρδιά του συμπλέγματος εθνικής ασφάλειας της Ρωσίας. Σε μία από τις βάσεις που στοχεύτηκαν φιλοξενείται μέρος του στόλου των πυρηνικών βομβαρδιστικών της Ρωσίας, καθώς και κρίσιμα αεροσκάφη δεξαμενόπλοιων.

A drone strike hit an oil facility near an airfield in a Russian region that borders Ukraine, the region’s governor said early Tuesday, a day after Ukraine showed the expanded reach of its forces by using drones to target two military bases deep inside Russia.
Russian officials did not directly accuse Ukraine in Tuesday’s attack, but the governor of the Kursk region, where the airfield is, issued a “terror alert.” It was the latest in a string of blasts on Russian soil that have altered the geography of the war, signaling a new willingness by Kyiv to take the fight to bases in the heart of Russia.
Roman Starovoit, the Kursk governor, said on Tuesday that emergency services had extinguished a fire caused by the strike and that no one had been injured.
Monday’s attacks struck two military installations hundreds of miles inside Russia — the Engels airfield and the Dyagilevo military base — according to Russia’s Defense Ministry and a senior Ukrainian official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to convey sensitive information. The drones were launched from Ukrainian territory, and in at least one of the strikes Ukrainian special forces working near the base helped guide the drones to the target, the senior official said.
Ukraine has not explicitly claimed responsibility for those strikes, as is its practice regarding military actions inside Russia. But Yurii Ihnat, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, said that the damage to the airfield at Engels appeared minimal and that Russia still had a vast fleet of bombers.
“But it is an alarming signal for them,” he said on Ukrainian national television.
